Amidst lush greenery a miniute or two walk from RK Beach stands
the beautiful structure of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama in light
pink that reminded us of the old temples of south India.
The shram comprises of two parts A well stocked
library and a prayer hall. Once inside you will be greeted with
tranquil prayer hall, with crystal clear marble flooring and
soothing lighting. In the center, an idol of Ramakrishna
Paramahamsa. There were idols of Sharada Maa (Ramakrishna
Paramahamsa's spiritual companion) and Vivekananda also.
Then the hall is opened to general public for meditation.
The next course of rituals and worship starts at 8.30 AM and
continues for one hour. The last puja for the day is done at 12
PM and the prayer hall gets closed thereafter to reopen at 3.30
PM. The evening prayer and aarti occur at 7 PM and the ambience
gets lively with wonderful bhajans (devotional songs). The hall
remains open till 9.30 PM. On special days like Ramakrishna
Jayanti, Holy Mother Sharada’s birthday, Durga Asthami and Guru
Purnima, special puja is offered along with spiritual talks on
the significance of that day. Community meal is also organized.
The library which has a rare collection of classic books on
subjects like philosophy, history, art and literature in
multiple languages like English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada
and Sanskrit is the second part of the ashram that is opened for
the visitors. It opens at 9.30 AM and closes at 12.30 PM, but to
borrow them you need to take membership by paying Rs. 300.
